Any ideas for and inexpensive baby shower? My sister-in-law is pregnant and is due in early October. We (my other sister-in-law and I) want to throw her a baby shower but neither one of us want to take on the financial obligation that comes with it. It might sound mean but we arent very close to her, but we still feel we should do something for her. We know that no one else in the family is planning to do anything for her because we have already asked. The point is, does anyone have any good ideas for throwing a nice inexpensive baby shower?? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Her family lives out of the country so they cant help... and well, she doesnt have many friends.

Best Answer way easy! Do it at one of your homes. do a light lunch open house with little finger foods. Make chicken salad sandwitches and put it on bread cut them into fourths have some fruit salad (very easy and cheap to make) then a veggie tray. Home make the cake and just buy those plastic bottles and booties from walmart cake section and decorate it with that. Go to the dollar store get some baby decorations. And the invites from there. You can throw a whole shower for i bet 25 dollars a piece or maybe 30. Which is pretty cheap. Can do cool aid and sprite for the punch turns out great!

Answer 4 don't do it. i didn't have one and neither did my sis. if you're broke, you're broke. no worries. if she cares about you, she'll understand. besides, she's your sister-in-law, get her family to throw her one. 2007-09-21 14:25:55
Answer 5 Dollar Store and Potluck!!! Trust me! 2007-09-21 14:27:24
Answer 6 Have it at one of your houses, and have crackers, cheese and a cake. You don't have to go all out. You don't even have to decorate. Call everybody you want to invite instead of sending out invites. Give everybody a small bag of hershey kisses when they leave. Have games like the "match the animal name to it's baby" or "cotton ball blindfold". There's lots of games on the Internet for baby showers that are pretty cheap - you probably have all the stuff at your house. Just the fact that you are giving her the party is so great! 2007-09-21 14:27:26
Answer 7 Have something at one of your houses/apartments - where ever you live. If the space isn't big enough, as your parents (or her parents) to have it at their house. You can do simple, inexpensive, home-made invitations, and ask everyone to bring an appitizer to share. Pick a cute theme that everyone can make/buy something to. When it comes to presents, talk to those that you're close to and see if you can all get together and pitch in for a present. There is nothing wrong with asking others to help in planning! Most people love to help! 2007-09-21 14:28:51
Answer 8 You can simply have it one of your houses, invite who you would like (you can make your own invitations if you want, or the dollar store or Big Lots has cheap, generalized invites), and provide tea to drink, and cheese and crackers (block of cheese and some wal-mart brand crackers), a relish tray (you make yourself with canned olives, carrots, celery, and cherry tomatoes for example), and maybe some cut up fruit or something else to your liking that's easy.
You don't have to put on a big spread - it's all according to how many people you invite (and how many will actually show up) and who.
It's not necessarily about the spread - people who come are going to WANT to celebrate the baby and her - they won't care about what you serve...
Good luck! 2007-09-21 14:29:43
Answer 9 One idea is to use someone's garage for the shower....rent some tables instead of renting the hall. Use little space heaters if it's cold..Im sure someone in the family might have the things you need. Make it special for her because she sounds like she needs support, maybe this baby will bring you closer. Use simple decor like paper tablecloths, cook your own food, simple pasta dishes or salads. Invite who ever can come bc she will recieve alot of needed items. Good luck. After all, it's your brothers baby too. 2007-09-21 14:32:02
Answer 10 baby showers aren't really that expensive to begin with. have it at a park or your house. buy some cheapo invites if she is registered at babies-r-us she can get some for free. bake a cake yourself (cost about $5) and get a thing or ice cream ($6) look at the dollar store for decorations streamers are best ($4) plus you can get plates and all that stuff there or have a potluck and have everyone bring something. either way it really shouldn't cost you more than $20-40. i think that you should at least be able to pull at least $20-30 a piece together for the shower. plus it's for your niece or nephew anyways so think about it that way. you might want to try to warm up to her a little bit that way you will be able to see the baby more. it's really not expensive, just look for deals. 2007-09-21 14:38:14
Answer 11 It's not to hard to give a baby shower and relativly inexpensive. I bought items from our local dollar store and made a center piece that looked like a wedding cake only made our of diapers and rattles, baby wash clothes, pacifiers, etc. Then I did the food myself. We had chicken fingers with dip. A veggie tray with dip you can do yourself with items you like,Broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, cucumbers, celery. Serve with Ranch dressing or whatever you like. Pigs in a blanket. Use canned biscuits the kind that flake. Take off a couple of layers of the dough rap around one of those little sausage like dogs put on cookie sheet bake in oven. There should be several from the small package. then for a really nice dessert Make brownies from a package . the possibilities are endless. 2007-09-21 14:47:38
