Baby shower?
Long story short, my baby shower is in a week and my mom (the person that was planning it for me) just backed out for financial reasons (yet she's going ca,ping this weekend. Lovely, eh?) and I can't pay for everything myself because I just had to come out of pocket $3,700 for bills and to get my car fixed today so I need to know of good ideas on how to still have my baby shower without spending a lot of money. Also, I need ideas for games.

You shouldn't be throwing your own shower, even under these circumstances. Call the guests, if your mom won't, and let them know that she has pulled out of the shower at the last minute. Someone will most likely step up and do it for you. If not, you can cancel the shower. I'm sure you will still receive the gifts, and I know you really want the shower, but it's pretty tacky to throw it yourself. How bout your best friend? Just have hot tea, and cookies. It's cuts down on the cost that way, and I'm sure you will still have a lovely shower. Your mom is an idiot and very selfish for doing this to you.

Poor girl! Can you have each person contribute decore or food perhaps? A pot luck if you will? That will help out a lot.

I suggest going to your local dollar stores and buying your plates, cups, and prizes. Go to Sam's Club and get your food in bulk. Showers don't have to be expensive, and all the expense should not fall on one person's shoulders--- do you have hostesses? If so, they should chip in on the expenses so you don't have to. You can find lots of ideas for games online--- just do a Google search. Good luck!

awww...i feel so bad for you. why dont you just tell people(like close family/friends) what happened and possibly if they can each bring something to eat, like a salad, burgers, hot dogs, chips and salsa. dont go big. hopefully everything works out for you. dont worry about decor unless you already have it. people will understand. or is it possible to postpone the baby shower.

Baby showers don't have to cost hardly any money. Get decorations at the dollar store and for food make sloppy joes and have chips and pop. Total cost= about $20.

You can have it at home or in a park. You don't have to provide much food...maybe just a sheetcake from Kroger (like $15 bucks). You can buy your party supplies at the dollar store, there's really no need to go to Party City. You don't have to give the guests grab bags either. Depending on when your baby is due, maybe you can get a friend to host it at their house, or at yours, so it doesn't look like you are throwing yourself a shower. Maybe you could just provide the stuff for your mom. Believe me, my rehersal dinner (that we threw at my parents pool) for my wedding turned out the same way. We had to provide everything and she took the credit.

WOW! what a great mom you have. well have the people closet to you each bring a dish. ans as for games they really arn't nessesary esp. if you dont have prizes to hand out with them. if you want go to walmart and pick up a 2 or 3 cheap items you can use as prizes and have easy games like: guess how many m&ms are in the Jar. an easy game that we played for my shower was get a couple of brown grocery bags and have you girls stand up and put the bags on there heads tell them no peeking. as say " take off something that you are wearing that is of no importance" the object is who ever is the first to tak the bag off their head is the winner. it usually goes around a couple of time before some on is smart enough to take tha bag off their head.(soooo funny) another game you can do is have a roll of tp and have each of your guests guess the amout it will take for it to wrap around your belly. have them pull off as much as they think it will take. just some ideas goole baby shower games if you want more.

Technically, a mother-to-be should never throw herself a baby shower, but I understand the mess you're in. Do you have another family member or close friend who can "officially" do it for you? If invitations and things are already sent, just have someone else take charge, and you can offer to help provide something. Or, you can just call people and tell them you're going to have to cancel b/c your mom backed out on you. Chances are, someone will feel bad about that and will offer to do it for you. If not, many will still give you things you need for the baby. Good luck!

Your due in July and having a baby shower already? games 1. buy different kinds of baby foods, peel the wrapper off the jars and let the guest guess what the foods are. the one who guessed right wins. Don't forget to label the jars with magic marker 1,2,3,4,and so on. 2. Crosswords puzzles. All the words have to be related to baby. 3. You can buy the baby bingo game that's made just for baby showers. 4. Everyone knows this one. Get some clothes pins. Give out 1 to everyone. The object of the game is to make sure you don't say baby. If you say baby then the person who heard you takes your clothes pin. The winner is person with the most clothes pins. Its hard to not say BABY at an baby shower. REMEMBER YOU CAN NOT PLAY THE GAMES, JUST SIT AROUND AND ENJOY.

I had a baby shower last week and it was cheap. My mom and I ordered pizza and wings, beverages, we had a cake and that's about it. I didnt want anything big or fancy, we had the big fancy wedding last June, just something more low key. We didn't have any games *the guests loved the fact they didn't have to play games* I opened up presents said thank you and that was about it. it was an ideal shower. Not too expensive either, about 50 dollars for the food.

Have the baby shower at home - either in your's, a friend's or a family member's. You can probably enlist friends and family to make a dish to bring so that you don't have to do too much or spend a lot. You don't need a lot of food if its early in the day. You can do breakfast (bagels, croissants, fruit, quiche, muffins - all of which are cheap), brunch (same) or lunch (pasta salad, sandwiches, fruit, cake, etc). Since its a baby shower, you also don't need alcohol which can be a great expense. You can also do a dessert type of shower (theme could be "Nothing's Sweeter Than A Baby" and serve cookies, cakes, coffee, etc. I too am sort of throwing my own shower because my family cannot afford the expense and I didn't want them to feel bad about it (but I really wanted a shower too!). To save money, I am making a lot of my own decorations and I've been collecting things I have found on sale though since I had way more than a week to plan. It depends on your theme though. I have a ton of ideas and you can email me or vice-versa if you'd like. Local party stores aren't usually that expensive for paper decorations though I wanted something a little different and more personal so I opted to make things myself. With only a week to go though, you don't have much time. Enlist a friend though - people love baby stuff so it shouldn't be hard to find some help in getting things done. Congrats and good luck.

first of all you can make a shower really cheap if you want to. instead of having a meal you could do snacks and cake only and buy off brand soda and chips from the dollar store like dollar tree or deals. also you can get decorations from the dollar store and print pictures of baby stuff off the internet and paste them on to cardboard to make them stable and then poke a hole through the top to hang them. for games you can get gifts from the dollar store that only cost a dollar maybe 6 of them and put a number on a couple of cake plates and then have numbers on the gifts you could do this with all of the gifts or you could do it with just a couple of them and then maybe scramble up some baby words and and print out enough for each guest to unscramble the words and for the top 3, or how ever many gifts you have left, who have unscrambled the most give them the rest of the gifts. should cost no more than $50 and your shower is done. for invitations you could print them out on the computer.

Do you have an aunt or a grandmother who could take the reigns? You shouldn't be throwing yourself a shower ever. Confide in your best friend or someone you trust and they should take over. I know I would in a heartbeat for so many of my friends.

potluck is your best choice. The food your guests are asked to bring doesn't have to be anything expensive and hard to prepare. If you need baby shower games, try the printable games at - http://www.invitations-and-more.com/ - you can print them from your computer and everything is free.
