Indian Orthodox services were introduced to the valley of the sun in the early 1990’s, as part of an Ecunemical community. As the number of Indian Orthodox families started increasing, the community requested the American Diocese of the Orthodox Church of India for a Malankara Orthodox Church in Phoenix. By the grace of the Almighty Father, a Kalpana was issued and the St. Thomas Orthodox Church of India, Phoenix was established in January 2006 under the jurisdiction of the American Diocese of the Malankra Orthodox Church.
Rev. Fr. Philip Abraham was appointed as the Vicar and President of St. Thomas Orthodox Church of India, Phoenix. He also serves as the Vicar and President of the St Mary’s Orthodox church in Los Angeles. Since establishment of the Church, the congregation has grown multi-fold, continuing to serve the spiritual needs to the ever growing community.
Oct 11, 2008 : After serving the community for Five years, Rev. Fr. Philip Abraham celebrated his last Holy Qurbana as the Vicar of St Thomas Orthodox Church, Phoenix. As one of the founding father’s of the Church, he served as the Vicar & President of the church since its establishment. He was instrumental in leading and developing this infant community. The community is grateful for his services and his leadership will be much missed.
Oct 12, 2008 : Rev. Fr. Slomo George is appointed as the new Vicar of the St Thomas Orthodox Church, Phoenix. The community is overjoyed to have a much needed resident Vicar to lead the community, and whole heartedly welcomes Achen and his family.
